A Hidden Gem In Washington Heights

On 202nd St between 9th and 10th ave you’ll find Patacon Pisao, one of the best food trucks in the city. Although the food truck is tucked away on a street that you wouldn’t expect much foot traffic, the truck always seems to have people waiting in line to get some of the delicious Venezuelan dishes.

One of the top items on the menu is a Patacon. So what is a Patacon? It’s essentially a sandwich, but instead of bread the sandwich uses platanos. You can pick different meats such as shredded chicken, beef or pork. It’s as delicious as it sounds. You might also get a jugo de chinola as you might need something to wash down the sandwich.

Next up on the list is a Cachapa. Instead of a platano base, the sandwich is made with corn meal bread. You can get an assortment of meats or cheese such as chicken, shredded beef, roasted pork or cheese. It’s a savory treat.

While you wait for your order I highly advise you get a Tequeno or as it’s more commonly called at the truck – un Palito. It’s fried cheese wrapped in dough and it’ll be one of the best appetizers you’ve ever had. Make sure you get some special sauce to top it off.

Make sure you get out there. You won’t regret it!
